MMCA members are now in HIGH demand by employers. Soon, we are hoping that most employers ask ,as a prerequisite to employment, that a Captain be a member of MMCA. Many Captain's are calling for an end to "paper captains". These unprofessional Captain's with minimal skills and training ARE effecting YOUR pay scale. They also create a danger to public safety.

MMCA is made up SOLELY of volunteer local Captain's who have looked at the issues facing local Captain's including the current pay scale, professionalism, the public perception of Captain's and more. The MMCA is setting the NEW standard for all of these issues.

MMCA has a "Task Force". This task force is used specifically to help ANY merchant marine family in the country in times of emergency such as fire, flood, hurricane. Our task force has many volunteer positions from food donations, to actually housing a merchant marine who has lost their home, or simply being called prior to a hurricane to help other Captain's secure their vessels. MMCA HOLDS DEAR the statement "We take care of our own". Please indicate below if you would like to be added to our volunteer list. Your answer in NO WAY effects your approval. You can also indicate below any special resources, talents, that you could offer another Merchant Marine in times of an emergency. This might include something like "I am a good carpenter and can help fix a damaged house or help board up a house in the event of a hurricane OR I belong to xxx organization that would be willing to help collect food for any Merchant Marine family suffering an emergency. The service of the "Task Force" is ONLY available to Merchant Marines- Licensed Captain's ARE Merchant Marines.
IMPORTANT: If you meet the minimum requirements MMCA reserves the right to do an unannounced ride along. This DOES NOT apply to ANY vessel where the Captain holds a license OVER 100 gross tons. This is ONLY done if there is a complaint filed or the Admiralty Board feels it necessary prior to approval. However, this will only be done in a way as NOT to effect business. The MMCA member conducting the "ride along" MUST be an Admiralty Board member and MUST identify themselves prior to boarding. You must agree NOT to charge the MMCA member for the "trip" if you run commercial passenger vessels. This "ride along" shall NOT be done on any commercial passenger vessel that exceeds a four hour trip such as; overnight fishing charters. It shall NOT be done when a private charter is scheduled. Please indicate below that you agree to this and which times are most appropriate for you such as; Tuesday mornings may not be very busy for your employer if you are a passenger captain. If an unannounced “ride along” for some reason can not be done due to your situation such as; you only work when a charter is scheduled please indicate that. In that case, you may be asked to be interviewed via phone by an Admiralty Board member if the need arise. Remember "ride along" and phone interviews are ONLY done if the Admiralty Board see's a need for it.

Once submitted and reviewed you will recieve an email from one of our Admiralty Board members with a pay pal payment enclosed for the ten dollar application fee. This is the ONLY fee for Captain's applying for membership.
